A majority of lawmakers in the United States believe that Americans are lazy because the jobs occupied by illegal immigrants are those jobs that American simply do not want. The overwhelming data and common sense suggests that this is not true. For example, the construction worker unemployment rate as of May 2011 stood at 16.3 percent. Given current unemployment rates of 9.2% for whites and 17% for employable blacks, it is reasonable to believe that many Americans would welcome the opportunity to work in the nation’s construction industry, which is among the most solidly middle wage jobs. It is sad that former Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Carter and now President Obama insist that the jobs being given illegal aliens are those Americans cannot not do. After all, those same jobs (janitorial, construction, hotel, restaurant, etc.) were also around in the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s when America was the world’s strongest power. Americans are not lazy.
